Murudeshwar Beach
Murudeshwar Beach: Murudeshwar is situated 180 km from Mangalore, 1 km off the National Highway in between Honnavar and Bhatkal of Karnataka.
It is believed that this place has been sanctified by a piece of the Pranalinga of Mahabaleshwara thrown by Ravana. Murudeshwar is bounded by the shimmering sea and rolling hills, and has some beautiful carvings and statues. This is a favorite picnic spot.
Attractions of the Beach:
Murudeshwar temple, situated 16 kms from Bhatkal, attracts a lot of devotees and tourists. It has an enchanting view with the roaring sea to the west, the towering hills to the east and the coconut groves nearby.
Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to this ancient temple.
You can also watch some of the quaint rituals like Bhuta
worship, the Kambala (buffalo race) and Korikatta the cockfight.
Kanduka Giri Hill
Fort - There is also a huge fort behind the temple said to have been renovated by Tipu sultan, the ruler of Mysore.
Mouth-watering delicacies of coastal Karnataka, spicy fish curries, variety of fruits and cashews.
