Karnataka Obbattu Recipe

Karnataka Holige, Puran Poli Recipe

Obbattu Recipe



Karnataka Obbattu is also called as Karnataka Holige and Puran Poli. This is a special sweet dish of Karnataka and made for many of the festivals.

Ingredients required

  • Chana dal- 1 cup
  • Jaggery - 300gm
  • Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
  • Maida/Plain flour - 1 1/2 cups
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Wheat sooji(rava) - 2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Ghee - 3 tsp
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Preparation

  • Mix maida with salt, turmeric powder, sooji rawa, water and oil, and make a dough.

  • Cover it and keep aside.

  • Cook channa dal and grind it.

  • Make jaggery syrup adding little water and mix the dal well.

  • Add ghee and remove from stove.

  • Add cardamom powder and mix well.

  • Make small balls with the mixture and keep aside.

  • Make small balls with maida mixture, of the same size.

  • Spread the maida ball into a chapathi and kee the dal mixture ball in the centre, cover the edges.

  • Roll it like a chapathi in a plastic paper, slowly and carefully.

  • Keep the tawa on the stove, and when heated cook the obbattu both sides spreading little ghee.

  • When both the sides of the obbattu are cooked golden brown color, remove it from the stove. Cook all the balls like this.

  • Obbattu (Holige) or Puran poli is ready. Serve hot.
