Floating Mall Kerala

Floating mall Triveni of Kerala is a new innovative venture. Consumerfed, the Kerala State Co-operative Consumers Federation Ltd, an apex body of consumer cooperatives in the State has launched this new innovative mall in Vembanad Lake in June 2009. This mall houses shopping items required by the local people of Kuttanad. Till now they were commuting to the nearest town for their needs, and now this innovative comes as a blessing to them. It is expected to cater to over a million people in Kuttanad.

The beautiful looking "Triveni," painted in red and white, is a novel experience for the homemakers of the islands. They also get the shopping items at a discounted price.

This innovative shopping boat runs on a 40-HP engine but its on-board lighting and computers are solar-powered.

The floating supermarket opens from 8 am to 6 pm, doing brisk business on the Kuttanad backwaters, and has eight staffers on board.
