Covelong Beach, Tamilnadu

Covelong Beach is a beautiful beach located 40 kms away from Chennai, between Chennai and Mahabalipuram.

The beach is separated from the mainland by the canal running from Chennai to Mahabalipuram.

Covelong is a popular picnic spot and offers facilities for Wind Surfing and Swimming too. The smooth and peaceful environment makes it one of the most sought after destinations by people who want a little bit privacy, thrill and solitude. It is one of the popular beaches in Chennai marked for its serene beauty and various other beach activities. This enchanting beach on the Coromandal Coast is also an ideal place for meditating. The sea and the surf on this beach are very calm and gentle.

Covelong is also a historic beach. It was Saadat Ali, the Nawab of Carnatic, who built a port here in the year 1746. The port was later captured by the French in 1752, under the commandship of General Laboudonnais. It was once the hub of French in India.
