The architectural elements of the Kerala temples include "Sree kovil" (garbhagriha), gopurams, namaskara mandapams, dwaja stambham, prakarams and Kuttambalam (theatre hall).
A generous use of murals is used for decoration purpose in Kerala temples. Most of the temples will have a temple pond called "ambala kulam" in the temple premises. Non-hindus are not permitted to enter some of the temples, like Guruvayur Srikrishna Temple. Photography is also restricted. They can see the temple only from outside.
